EMANCIPATE YOURSELF

All I have this month is my riff on a Bob Marley song. I’m sure most people know it. I think the title of his song is "Redemption's Song".

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery,
none but ourselves can free our minds,
how long will the scholars rob us,
they’re not of the loving kind.

Oh the scholars, yes, they rob us,
they dig their knives into history,
they tell lies about my people,
and sell it from sea to sea.

It doesn’t matter if you’re innocent,
scholars will invent a crime,
convicting those who did no wrong
is a talent they think sublime.

So won’t you sing?
Sing a song of freedom.
Because all I ever really had
was redemption’s song.

Too long have they stolen knowledge,
too long have they given grief,
they have no respect for cultures,
a truthteller is just a freak.

I don’t wanna see no more high degrees,
don’t bring me no more tomes,
if this is what the wisest do,
I would rather work alone.

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery,
none but ourselves can free our minds,
how long will the scholars rob us,
they’re not of the loving kind.

So won’t you sing?
Sing a song of freedom.
Because all I ever really had
was redemption’s song.
